Frequently Asked Questions

How does Link Report work?

Link Report takes the URL you share with it and turns it into a brief report of the text on the page. It does not try to replace the entire article, but it gives you a report to help you decide if you want to click through to read the full thing.

What kind of content can be previewed?

Link Report works with single web pages that contain articles like news or blogs focused on text content.

What does it cost?

New users will get some free credits to start (varies by region). Then 100 packs of additional credits are available for US$1.99, international prices vary. You can also earn free credits by watching video ads.

Are there ads?

When holdling purchased credits, there are no ads in the app. If you don't want to buy credits, you can opt to watch video ads in exchange for credits. When holding only those credits, banner ads will appear in the app, but not in a way that interrupts the experience like you find on some web sites. Purchased credits are always spent first.

Can't I get this through Google, Bing, or ChatGPT for free? Why should I pay?

If the product is free, you are the product. Other services that process content for "free" will continue to collect data about you so they can target you with more and more advertisements. Link Report will not.

Also those services have a high hallucenation rate. Link Report uses a proprietary middle layer that nearly eliminates hallucenation.

Is it truly private?

The news sources you interact with and from which you launch Link Report may track that you shared that URL with Link Report, but all other interaction after that is anonymous. The AI companies do not know anything about you, and since you pay for Link Report, we have no incentive to try to make money selling your data to advertisers... like the big "free" services do.

What is the private browser?

Link Report includes an integrated private browser for when you do wish to load the full site after reading the preview. This browser has no connection to your default browser and does not use or impact any of your histories there, and it leaves no trace behind on the device. The sites you interact with will still have visibility into your browsing including your IP address and device type.

What data is stored?

Link Report stores an encrypted version of your anonymous device ID to keep count of how many credits you have left. We do not associate any content requests with your ID. We do not collect any identifiable data. We do record your IP address so we can offer you location appropriate terms, but we do not collect detailed location information.

We also store on your device an identifer for the last 100 content requests you've run so that if you ask for one again, we can serve it to you without charge. This is only stored on your device and is cleared if you clear data or uninstall the app.

Why don't I have a login? Can I move my account to another device?

For now your account is based on your device. If you change devices or somehow change your device id, your credits will not transfer.

Is this ChatGPT?

No. Link Report uses AI from OpenAI and others but it is not the same as using ChatGPT. A proprietary layer sits between the app and the AI backends that processes each URL individually and optimizes the prompts.

Why Android? Is an iOS version coming?

We started with Android because that's what we use. An iOS version is in the planning stages but there's no launch date yet.

Who made this?

Mike Halleen is a developer and product manager with a long career in digital media. This project came out of experiments run between gigs when ChatGPT first exploded into the world.

Does this work on links that don't have a share button?

Depending on your browser and the site, you may be able to press and hold on a link and bring up a menu that includes a share button.

Why doesn't it always work?

The product is still in development. Your feedback helps me make it better.
